 Meet the Hoop Historians

 

Joe is a high school graduate of Archbishop Weber High School in Chicago, which had another alumnus with pretty good basketball credentials -- Duke Coach Mike Krzyzewski.  Makowski graduated from DePaul University and the Loyola School of Dentistry.    While at DePaul, Joe started as a member of the Blue Demons stat crew for mens' basketball.  Joe worked as the school's statistician for 37-1/2 years from 1970-2008, working over 750 mens' collegiate games.  During those four decades Makowski worked alongside two Hoop Historians, Mike Gibbons and Kevin McCann and originally worked for the school with another Hoop Historian, John McCann, who was the university's Sports Information Director.  Joe has had the experience of continuing his basketball traditions with those three Hoop Historians and his son Marty (another Hoop Historian) during the last several Final Fours.  When basketball season is not in session, Joe has worked the gridiron as an Illinois High School Association football referee since 2008.
