Gordon is a former player and basketball official at the Division I Level.  Welch played for the Southern Methodist University Mustangs from 1977-1981.   He attended Carbondale Community High School in Illinois and was elected to the school’s Hall of Fame in 2014.  At SMU he averaged 10.1 points per game in his senior season.  Welch is currently a senior staff insurance adjuster in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.  Gordon serves his alma mater, SMU, as its official scorer for both men and women's' basketball games.
